In our continuing mission to bring the best speakers in the industry, the World Medical Tourism & Global Healthcare Congress announces Dr. Marty Makary, New York Times best-selling author of the book Unaccountable and Director of Surgical Quality & Safety at Johns Hopkins International will present at the annual conference.
He was the creator of the Surgical Checklist later popularized in the book The Checklist Manifesto. He served on the World Health Organization (W.H.O.) Surgery Checklist workgroup and chaired the W.H.O. technical workgroup on measuring surgical quality worldwide.
In his role at John’s Hopkins, Dr. Makary is Chief of Islet Transplantation Surgery. He also serves as a professor of Health Policy & Management at the Bloomberg School of Public Health. In 2006, Dr. Makary was named the Mark Ravitch endowed Chair of Gastrointestinal Surgery at Johns Hopkins, and in 2010 was named Director of Surgical Quality & Safety at Johns Hopkins. Last year, Dr. Makary was named to America’s 20 Most Influential People in Health Care by Health Leaders Magazine.
Aside from his best-selling book Unaccountable, Dr. Makary writes for The Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, and TIME Magazine. He is a medical commentator for FOX News and NBC’s TODAY show, where he highlights the top research studies in JAMA and the New England Journal of Medicine.
