Engagement Strategies for an Effective Employer – Provider Bundled Payment Partnership

Monterey County Schools Insurance Group (MCSIG) and Monterey Peninsula Surgery Centers (MPSC) partnered to effectively engage plan members to utilize bundled surgery rates for substantial savings to the plan sponsors and plan members. MCSIG developed unique incentives for plan members to utilize the program and MPSC deployed a strategy to identify and communicate with MCSIG plan members and alert them to the benefit incentive opportunities. MCSIG utilizes a provider network program through BridgeHealth and MPSC is a contracted provider with BridgeHealth. Both MCSIG and MPSC recognized that effective plan member engagement had to be driven from the local level and by multiple sources in order to achieve success.  In this session we will cover:

  • MCSIG structure as a California Joint Power Authority and the unique Monterey County health care market
  • MPSC organization and early recognition of the opportunities for cost savings and business development in surgical bundled rates
  • MCSIG benefit design incentives and plan member communications. MCSIG contract relationship with BridgeHealth and plan savings for 2015 and 2016
  • MPSC activities to identify MCSIG members at registration and other promotional efforts.  MPSC scope of bundled procedures under the BridgeHealth agreement, case-to-case operational flow and case statistics
